OpenAI has introduced “Canvas,” a new interface designed to enhance collaborative writing and coding workflows. Unlike the traditional chat format, Canvas provides a separate workspace where users can directly edit text or code and receive inline feedback from ChatGPT.
As detailed in a blog post on OpenAI’s website, this feature allows users to highlight specific sections for ChatGPT to focus on, enabling more precise suggestions and improvements. Canvas also includes shortcuts for tasks such as adjusting document length, changing reading levels, and debugging code. A version control system further enhances productivity, letting users restore earlier iterations of their work.
Currently in beta, Canvas is available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with plans to extend access to Enterprise and Edu accounts. OpenAI aims to roll out Canvas to all ChatGPT Free users after the beta phase concludes.
According to OpenAI, Canvas represents a shift in how users interact with AI by moving beyond simple chat interfaces to more integrated and interactive collaboration. The company has stated that Canvas is intended to streamline iterative processes in writing and coding.
OpenAI recently announced a $6.6 billion funding round, which the company says will help support its ongoing efforts to expand AI capabilities and improve user experience.
